why does the law turn a blind eye on car number plates which are illegible?

Q) Car Number plates are getting worse illegible itallics etc the Police can issue fixed penalties but very few do. If you drive about with illegible Number plate's that is a deliberate breaking of the law. It's all very well if you think it's cool but easily identifiable number plate are crucial with the amount of 'hit and run' RTA's and crime. I believe we should start sending digital photo's to Swansea so they can prosecute OR if a personal plate 'Take the plate back' as explained when a personalised plate is purchased. It could only happen in the UK we are so bloody soft, they know they are breaking the law deliberatly 'SO NICK EM'

A) I think it's appalling that people with illegible number plates can get away with it. I don't know why the police don't focus on this as a hazard on the road, but I would assume it's because they don't consider it important enough. Maybe it's down to laziness or lack of resources, but it's not right. And as for using illegible number plates to break the law by speeding through speed cameras, I have to comment that speed cameras are there for a reason. They are not there to catch you out; they are there to stop accidents. Speeding is dangerous. Sorry that this doesn't really answer your question but I had to state my opinion.

What are some of the best private car number plates you've seen?

Q) I personally wouldn't pay for a private plate cause its just not me. I've seen: R4D105 (looked like RADIO5) JU1CY (as in JUICY - I know the owner and there was a story in The Sun of how he was in London and at traffic lights met a guy with number plate of M1NGE... and they spent an hour of him going first and M1NGE following directly behind him around through the streets of London - funny but also a bit sad.) Can't recall any other standout ones atm.

A) one of my favourite is ''3M TA3'' its a tough one see if you can figure it out. It means nothing when read directly but in a rear view mirror it reads ''EAT ME''.

Why In the UK, car number plates are a diffrent colour?

Q) They are white in the front with black letters and numbers, yellow on the rear of the car, with black numbers and letters, no one seems to know???

A) When reflective plates were introduced in 1972, the most easy to read is black lettering on white, so that was chosen for the front. however, in the UK it is illegal to have a white light source visible from the rear unless reversing, and that includes reflective sources, so another colour had to be found, and yellow was the next most clear to read, so that was chosen for the rear.

A) You should be aware it is illegal to own a number plate printer or print plates unless you are registered

A) A waste of money - The only one worth having (this goes back a good few years) was - P155 OFF Only they did not have the guts to issue it !!!!!

A) In the UK, Q is reserved as a prefix for vehicles where there is a query over the age. This is usually kit cars built from several sources, or re-registered military vehicles, or sometimes imports. It has also not been available in the "body" of the reg number becasue of it's similarity to O. Hope that helps (well, you know what I mean).

A) Depends on where they are glued to, and type of glue. However acetone(fingernail polish remover) usually will soften glue up enough to remove it.

A) I am assuming you are talking about license plates. Unless you have vanity/personalized plates you do not transfer regular plates from one car to another, since the DMV of your state will assign you the plate number. Even if you have vanity plates you will still need to contact the DMV stating you want to switch over your plates to your new car. When you bought the new car, the dealer or private party seller should have notified the DMV of the sale, and you should have done the same(for private party used car sales). If you did this, the DMV or dealer would have given you temporary tags until your plates arrive in the mail.

A) Only the police can do that; private citizens do not have the right to do that unless you own the vehicle yourself.

A) Easy. Go to the DMV, tell them you sold the car. They may ask for a Bill of Sale showing the date and mileage so make sure you have that with you. They will cancel the plates for you. Let them know you left the plates on and they will figure the rest out from there.

How can you stop flies splatting on your car number plate - and how can you remove splatted flies?

Q) Are there any techniques I can use to prevent them - or if not the best way of getting them off?

A) I don't think there is any way to prevent it, I wish there was. I usually use a rag of hot soapy water to kind of soak the bugs first and then I use a very stiff bristled brush to scrub them away. I think they make some kind of cleaning stuff for bugs though. Check your local Automotive store.

A) Personalized aka Vanity plates for legal license plate usage must be Special ordered thru the State that you live in usually thru a county satellite office in your area... they are an additonal extra cost item which may vary from state to state... In Idaho they cost $25.00 extra on top os all the other normal fess...
